Abstract
Offset agreements are widespread in sales of defense
products. There is a steady tendency to increase their share as a percentage of
world trade. Developed countries with well-established Defence Technological
and Industrial Bases, use offset transactions to target activities to business
organizations and countries with emerging economies use offset to gain military
and commercial benefits. The following paper
examines the offset as an economic operation which represents a wide range of
industrial and trade practices.
